Reception are zooming off into space

This week Reception have been reading the story ‘Whatever Next’ about a little bear that makes his own rocket and flies into space. As well as acting out the story, we have been recreating some of the objects that you might see in space, such as the planets. We used marbling ink to create the […]

Year Six classification grids

Year Six have been working hard on classification grids. After organising animals based on common, observable characteristics, then then worked on classifying themselves by writing their own classification grid in chalk on the playground.

Reception Stem challenge

This week we have been investigating which material would be best for the Princess’s bed in the Princess and the Pea story. She had had a terrible night sleep due to sleeping on a hard pea. We tested paper towels, cotton wool, bubble wrap, felt and sponge. A lot of the children predicted that the […]

Science in Year Three

In Science this week, we used a ‘special’ app on the iPad to take X-rays of different body parts. The children were amazed by how many bones there are in a human body. After the children were given a bag of bones and had to use all of them to create a skeleton.

Science in Year Two

Year two have been taking their science learning outdoors this week. Their topic is Living Things and their Habitats. The children went out to search for things they considered living. We then discussed what non-living things were and things that were dead. These were all in our woodland habitat, a new piece of vocabulary for […]

Forces in Year Five

Within class this week, we have continued to explore our new science unit of forces. We have begun to look closely at gravity and the significant scientist Isaac Newton. Here are a selection of images of the children preparing our investigation where we are going to take precise measurements using force metres.

Welcome back Reception

Minibeast hotels in Reception

This week Reception have designed minibeast hotels for their minibeast friends. We considered the range of materials available and then the children selected what they would like to use. They recorded the designs onto a minibeast hotel. The children brought in recyclable boxes which they then filled with their selected materials. Next week we’ll see […]

Year One’s Peak Wildlife Visit

Year One visited Peak Wildlife Park this week to find out more about animals! They talked about how to classify animals (and found lots of mammals and birds!) and also considered different animal’s diets and whether this made them herbivores, carnivores or omnivores. We also studied the Humboldt penguin closely and learned that it came […]
